It all began 5 years ago as an experiment, trying to achieve the production of a leather free boot. The experiment, well-received by the public, inspired more attempts and eventually prompted founder, Grandt Mason, to take on the project full-time. Two years after the first boot was conceived Grandt’s sister, Kate Mason, joined the team helping to steer the label towards the female market.
The duo quickly became known for their take on the ballet pump and have since managed to carve a name in the fashion industry renown for quality, comfort and for pushing the limits of conventional methods of both design and production.
The brother and sister team are focused on growing the local industry and have set up a factory in Roeland st, Gardens (above Charlys bakery).
grandt mason originals and parent company, g-mo Footwear (www.g-mo.co.za) are both working towards a 100% environmentally friendly product. The label is also animal friendly and makes use of no synthetic fabrics unless they are of a recycled nature. “Any two dimensional surface has the potential to become a shoe. We have used curtains, wedding dresses, suit jackets and many other found objects in the past. We are looking into the potential use of yacht sails and billboards in an attempt to incorporate recycled materials in the manufacturing process as far as possible.”
